Monthly Recap: April 2020
Well, after a March that seemed to last at least eight billion years, April seemed to fly by. I can’t even believe it’s actually already May. I feel like there has been some hopeful new re: quarantine out there lately, and honestly, I’m just holding on to the slightest chance this will all be over before fall. I can’t imagine May and June will go as smoothly as April if things don’t show some sort of improvement. But I guess we will hang in there and see what happens. Let’s take a look back at April!
On the goals front: Honestly, I set some ambitious goals for April, and I met quite a few of them. By ambitious, I mean, they required me to do more than just lay in bed reading all day. I published more blog posts than I set out to both here and on CBWR, which is legit a first. I read lots of books, obviously. I actually got some writing done, and I managed to stay sane. Mostly.
On the reading front: I read seventeen books in April, including lots of really good ones. Check out CBWR for my one sentence reviews of all of them. Stand outs this month were Not that Kind of Guy, Blacksmith Queen, The Perfect Escape, and A Curse So Dark and Lonely.
On the writing front: In addition to getting a decent amount of words done on my latest romcom, I also started a totally new project, one that is completely out of my comfort zone. I have no idea if it will actually go anywhere, but it’s been a lot of fun to write, and it’s actually helped me with my romcom too. Honestly, right now is about writing what I want and not worrying about the outcome because who knows what the market is going to look like when we come out on the other side of this thing.
On the movie front: I mean, yeah, this is obviously not a thing that’s happening right now. I do have some new streaming releases on my list to check out, but the biggest thing in movies for me has been my rewatch of the Twilight Saga. I’ve finished Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse and it’s been a ride.
On the self care front: Honestly, this has been a bit of a struggle for me because #quarantinelife. A lot of the things I would normally do for self care are just not options right now and it has been tough. I’m really looking forward to being able to go out and have some alone time outside of my house as soon as it is safe to do so. But I’ve been making time to read every day, and Matt and I have a pretty good system going in terms of splitting child duty and making sure we each get time to work on our own stuff. And writing after bedtime has been good for me too. So, it could be better, but it could also definitely be worse.
Hope you and yours are staying safe and staying home!
