I Made the Disney Parks Churros and Here’s What I Learned
If you, like me, are in some serious need of a dash of Disneyland in your quarantine life, you might be looking for some ways to bring the Disney parks magic home. One of those ways is to definitely take full advantage of the recipes they have been sharing, and make yourself some Disneyland treats in the comfort and safety of your own home. Churros are quite possibly Squirt’s favorite Disneyland treat, so we tackled those first. It was mostly successful, but here are some things I learned!
This is a two person job. Despite the simplicity of the recipe below, it would be hard to really make these churros with just one set of hands. I needed Matt to hold open the piping bag for me so I could get the dough in (it’s thicker than frosting and harder to manage). I also needed his help to cut the dough after I piped it into the oil. Along with that, it’s super helpful to have one person frying while the other person handles the cinnamon and sugar (this was Squirt’s job). So if you need a family activity, this is a good one.

The dough itself needs some flavor. The actual churro dough is pretty bland, and would definitely have benefited from some extra cinnamon and probably some vanilla. If I were going to make these again, I would definitely pump up the dough a bit.
But also, half this recipe. The header image of this blog post is about one-third of the churro bites we made using this recipe, so unless you are going to be making these for a party (which you shouldn’t be having! social distancing!), you probably only need half. Or make the whole batch but freeze half the dough and save it for later.

If you can, use a hand mixer. Once you take the dough off the heat (see photo below) and start adding the eggs, definitely use a hand mixer if you have one. I don’t (I always use my stand mixer) and ooooh boy were my arms hurting. Though it was one of the best workouts I’ve had since quarantine, so maybe it’s not such a bad thing.

Be prepared to eat right away. There’s a reason churros are served hot and fresh. Old churros tend to be chewy and close to flavorless. That’s the main takeaway for me after making these. They don’t store well, you gotta eat them right away. And I mean, there are worse things than needing to eat churros right away, but again, since the recipe made so many, we ended up with a lot of leftovers that really tasted kind of blah even the next day.
I think we’ll probably try to make our own Dole Whips next, assuming we get some lasting sunshine around here. Until then, stay safe and stay home!
Have you made any of the Disney Parks recipes? How’d they turn out?

Good to know! i was thinking about trying these but I don’t need that many churros haha! And I’ll add extra cinnamon and vanilla. I’ve made a number of Disney recipes in quarantine already, including citrus swirl and dole whip!
