Schitt’s Creek is a Perfect Show
Well friends, if you, like me, spent last Tuesday night sobbing hysterically into a box of tissues watching the series finale and subsequent one hour documentary of Schitt’s Creek, you probably still haven’t totally come to terms with the fact that it’s actually over. I’m in denial. The only good news is the finale was perfect, and this show will be part of my life forever and ever because I will continue to watch it on Netflix on repeat until the end of time. And it never gets old, and never will get old, because it’s an actual perfect show. And if you don’t believe me, I’m going to use this post to convince you. Is that code for I’m going to use this post to incorporate as many SC gifs as possible? Maybe.

So here’s some reasons why Schitt’s Creek is perfect and if you haven’t already watched it, then you better damn well get on it.
The GIFs: Let’s start light, because some of these reasons are going to be legit tearjerkers. SC has given us some of the greatest quotes, and therefore the greatest gifs, of all time. I try to work these gems into my everyday life as much as possible.

The Fashion: For a show that started on a tight budget, they gave us some incredible looks throughout the years. Moira in particular always kept us on our toes and while it was low on the list of reasons I tuned in to watch, it was definitely on the list. And it was only low on the list because everything else was so high.

Stevie is Me and I am Stevie: Look, the first gif of Stevie in this post is basically my personal catch phrase. I legit have a sign hanging above my desk that says “I do a thing called what I want”. Stevie is the dry, sarcastic, hiding her feelings behind her awkwardness, soul sister I never knew I needed. She’s simply the best.

Schitt’s Creek is a No Homophobe Zone: It is a breath of fresh to watch a show where the queer characters just are. Sexuality is discussed, we even watched Patrick come out to his parents, but it is never, ever, not even once an “issue”. Schitt’s Creek is just a town where everybody operates in the way the whole world should operate. Like, this shouldn’t be anything groundbreaking because it’s 20 fucking 20 and we should be way beyond where we actually are, but I love that this show modeled just how the world could and should look.

Alexis: I could probably write a thesis on why every character on this show is one of the best characters in the history of characters, and I don’t think I could ever truly choose a favorite, but Alexis’s transformation from party girl to girl boss is nothing short of amazing. The girl spawned a movement with one word, but ended up leaving us with a strong, capable, independent woman, and you know what? I love that journey for her.

The Character Arcs Y’all: Anyone who wants to write anything with characters should study this show. There are so many amazing things about these characters to take note of and Dan Levy should start a master class. First, when this show starts, these people are awful. Truly awful. And they don’t really start becoming less awful until maybe partway through season two. So that means a whole season of them being awful, and yet we still love them. But the biggest thing is the way these characters grow. Every single main character on this show is different from when the show started. And not in superficial ways. They learned and they grew, and it was handled in a way that felt realistic and relatable while still being tangible. It’s perfection.

A Perfect Finale at a Perfect Time: Did I want this show to go on forever? Yes. Would I have continued to watch until the end of time? Yes. But the truth is, the finale was perfect, and the show ended at just the right time. While I have faith the writers would have continued to bring us comedy gold, these characters really did reach the end of their arc, and so while it would have been great for it to go on, ending when it did really completed a full circle. And I don’t know about you, but I needed a good cry for once these days.

Though the final season might have come to an end, there is no doubt in my mind that Schitt’s Creek will live on on our screens and in our gifs for many, many years to come. If you haven’t yet watched, I hope you’re now ready to dive in!
