Love is Blind is the Best Show on TV, Don’t @ Me

Guys. It’s a rare, once in a lifetime phenomenon when people from all walks of life unite under one common bond. And this week, that common bond is the reality TV masterpiece Love is Blind, available on Netflix. I started watching after seeing some tweets by people whose TV interests align with mine and figured I would check it out. I watched nine episodes in two days and was then left to suffer the interminable wait (two days) until the finale was released yesterday. Y’all this show is bananas and I am obsessed.

The basic premise: A bunch of people move into two houses, one for the guys and one for the girls (issues there from the get go, I know, but just go with it). Then they meet in these pods. Each pod is equipped with a comfy couch and ottoman and is divided down the middle by a wall. The guys are on one side of the wall and the girls are on the other. So each person has conversations with all the members of the opposite sex until bonds start to build and couples form. All without the participants ever having seen each other.

In order for the couples to get the chance to meet each other in person, they have to become engaged. Within a matter of days. And many of them do. The guys propose to a woman they have never seen before, and the women accept. It. is. bananas. And did I love every second of it?

After getting engaged, the six couples embarked on a week long Mexican vacation to spend some time together in person. One of those couples didn’t even make it through the first 24 hours, so we were off to a stellar start. But even though things were rocky for most of them in the beginning, it seemed like there was an okay chance some of these couples might actually make it. Then the honeymoon period ended and they all went home (side note: seems like they only cast within the Atlanta area because they all moved back to the city and went about their lives). The couples moved in together (all in the same apartment building) and then had three weeks to plan their weddings. Have I mentioned this is all crazy pants?

The drama that ensues is nothing short of Shakespearean. We’ve got a woman who loves her fiance but isn’t in love with him, a volatile 25 year old who straight up tells her man he’s not the best sex she’s ever had, a naive 24 year old guy who misses all the signs, a couple who are both so weird it oddly works, and the sweetest baby angels with the cutest love story ever. The finale was a ROLLERCOASTER. And I won’t spoil it because it was so good you must watch it for yourself. The reunion episode will be released next week and it better be three hours long because I have so. many. questions. I could honestly write a 20 page dissertation about this show, but for now, I will just say this: If you are one of the few who hasn’t watched, get on it immediately. You have almost a full week to get caught up before the reunion and you can bet your ass I will be staying up until 12:01 and watching it the moment it drops. It’s that good.
