Monthly Recap: October 2019

Welcome to my least favorite weather of the year, where’s it’s cold in the morning, baking in the afternoon, and chilly at night. Pick a lane, So Cal! Also, let’s chill with the horrific and deadly winds, mkay? Despite California burning, October was a pretty good month, so let’s take a look back, shall we?

On the goals front: I met four of my six goals for the month of October. I finished the first draft of my wedding planning book, which is hopefully going to be ready for publication in the next few weeks. I met my reading goal (duh), and my blog post goal (woohoo!) and my business goal. I did not fare so well with my manuscript I’m currently writing, but that’s okay (more on that in a minute).

On the writing front: So I spent most of October worrying about Pitch Wars. PW is kind of like The Voice for writers, except at the end there isn’t just one winner. I’m talking more about it in detail over on my NEW BLOG (heyoh!), but the gist of it is, I entered a competition to try to get a mentorship with a published author, and my manuscript was selected! For the next couple of months, it means a lot of hard work and revisions, but hopefully in the end, I’ll walk away with a fresh new take on my book and (fingers crossed!) an agent.

On the reading front: I read seventeen books in October! Since my new blog is going to focus on reading and writing, I will probably be cutting back on my review posts over here, but I’ll keep including these updates in my monthly recaps so you have links to reviews if you want them. In October, I read: Desperate Measures, Dark Lover, Last Anniversary, Bringing Down the Duke, Seven Minutes in Heaven, Any Man of Mine, Stepsister, Bloodfever, Make Me Love You, Sleeping Arrangements, Study in Charlotte, Faker, A Scot in the Dark, Hating Game (reread), No Rest for the Wicked, Twice in a Blue Moon, and This Scot of Mine.

On the movie front: I saw five movies in October, and they were kind of all over the map. Judy didn’t live up to expectations; Lucy in the Sky left me questioning why this story was chosen to be told; Maleficent: Mistress of Evil I actually liked more than the original; The Current War was a pleasant surprise; and The Lighthouse was awful and made me stabby.

In other news: The main new addition for October was my new blog, Coffee Books Wine Repeat. If you enjoy my book posts, or you want more details about this crazy writing journey I’m on, please head over there and check it out! And as always, thank you for following along!
