My Definitive Marvel Movie Rankings (So Far)
Well friends, it’s official. I have watched all of the films comprising the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s been a hell of a ride, and I am almost finished with my entire MCU Challenge. For today’s post, I’m sharing with you my rankings of all eighteen Marvel movies and how they rate in terms of my favorites. I want to make that really clear: this is not a best of list, it’s a my favorites list. For me, I’m ranking these movies based on a couple of key factors, but the main criteria is whether or not I would watch the movie multiple times. Some of these rankings might be controversial. But that’s how I roll. Drum roll please…
#18 Incredible Hulk: Honestly, if you disagree with this pick, you should probably just leave right now. This movie feels the most disconnected from what we have come to know and expect of the MCU. And the fact that Mark Ruffalo is not Hulk makes it hard to accept this movie.
#17 Doctor Strange: I don’t have a huge problem with this movie, it just didn’t capture my interest as much as some of the others, which is a shame because I love Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams. I wish it had more humor and less motion sickness inducing visuals.
#16 Iron Man 3: I am not an Iron Man lover. He’s just not my fave. I realize that Iron Man fans love him the most, but that just ain’t me. My favorite part of this movie was the end credits. I don’t mean that in a snarky way either, the credits are legit awesome.
#15 Iron Man 2: See above.
#14: Ant-Man: I am fully aware I may come under fire for ranking Ant-Man above Iron Man, but the simple truth of the matter is Ant-Man is funny AF. The Drunk History lip-syncing, story-telling scenes are gold. Paul Rudd and Michael Pena are a dream. I stand by my choice.
#13 Thor: The Dark World: Thor is my boo, so obviously his movies get a little bit of a boost. Though despite my intense and undying love for Chris Hemsworth, the shining star of this movie is Tom Hiddleston. All the love for Thor and Loki.
#12 Thor: Even I can admit that this movie has some problems, and is seriously lacking in the character development department, but not only do we get to meet Thor in this movie, but we also get to fall in love with Coulson, who gets all my heart eyes until the end of time.
#11 Iron Man: I can appreciate the humor and Iron Man’s creation story, and the fact that I ranked this above Thor should earn me some points.
#10 Captain America: Winter Soldier: Here’s where things start to get tough. The remainder of the films on this list are all GREAT movies. I love them all, and I will truthfully watch all of them again multiple times. So I have to just go with my gut and make some hard choices. I love Bucky, I love Sam, and I LOVE Cap. The only reason this is the lowest ranking of the Cap movies is because it’s a little darker than the others.
#9 Captain America: If you can watch this movie and not walk away loving Cap, then you have no soul and we can’t be friends. Plus, Peggy is the shit and she will be my girl for lyfe.
#8 Captain America: Civil War: No one can argue with the awesomeness that is this movie. It’s basically a mini Avengers title, and sets the stage for so much else that happens in the MCU.
#7 Avengers: Age of Ultron: Okay, in all honesty, I don’t love this movie with the passion that I love some of the others. HOWEVER, it is so essential in the MCU that it deserves this ranking.
#6 Black Panther: I love so much about this movie, it almost pains me that it’s not in the top five. Black Panther is so good on so many levels, but my favorite part about it is the badassness of the ladies of Wakanda. Shuri is the best Disney princess ever.
#5 Spider-Man Homecoming: Didn’t see that coming, did ya? This one kind of surprised me too, but honestly, this movie is so well done, and so effing funny, that I can see myself watching it again and again. Tom Holland is the cutest, and I love the supporting cast, so I’m here for it.
#4 Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: Since humor is one of my favorite traits in the MCU, it should come as no surprise that GotG ranks among my faves. I could watch the Guardians on repeat. And bonus: my kid love them.
#3 Guardians of the Galaxy: See above.
#2 Avengers: I mean, this title deserves its spot for the sole reason that it set the stage for everything else to come. I don’t know that the rest of the MCU would have been so successful if not for this movie. It’s so well done on all levels that it really set the tone for the rest of the experience.
#1 Thor: Ragnarok: I realize that this may be an unpopular choice. But I have now watched this movie six or seven times and it gets me every time. I laugh, I cry, I am on the edge of my seat. I love the improv, I love Valkyrie, I love Loki’s redemption. You could argue I’m in it for the hotness of CH, but to that I would say, look how low his other movies ranked. Honestly, I will watch this movie forever, and I will love it every single time. Fight me.
I KNOW you don’t all agree with my rankings, so please, let’s have at it! What’s your number one? Where did my list go wrong? Where did it go oh so right? Share your thoughts!
